The
Pattaya Panthers Rugby Club
The Pattaya Panthers came into being some three months after their
first game. The first time a team was assembled in the name of Pattaya
was for the Thailand 10's in April 1998. The debut was notable for the
fact that Pattaya became the first team in the history of the Tournament
to stretcher people on to the field. Pattaya lost in the semi final by
more points that one has fingers, and in what was a trend setting move,
handed the 3rd and 4th place playoff to our opponents on the grounds that
the beer had nearly run out!!
The name Pattaya Panthers was adopted in July 1998 and this came from
one of our silly founder members a silly Kiwi, Steve Ritchie who has sadly
since departed. The club has gone from strength to strength since those
early days, however this said nothing will diminish the reason why we
still grace rugby pitches all over Asia
.to work up a thirst!!
